When the plumbing is installed in a new home it is usually pressure tested upon completion to make sure there are no leaks. This is the only test that can normally be done since the water usually isn’t turned on until the buyer moves in and has the utilities hooked up.
I have found that even though you pressurize water lines with air it is possible that you will not find a leak even though it exists. This is primarily because the water will “wash” at any sealer that has been used on any joints where air will push the sealer in front of it and hold it in place.
For this reason small leaks are sometimes common in new home construction. Normally these leaks occur around threaded joints but can occur in glued joints as well. Normally just taking a wrench and tightening the joints is all that is required. Occasionally new thread sealer will have to be installed.
Some of your more typical plumbing problems that you may expierience owning a home would be clogged drains, sink or toilets. Sometimes these can be fixed with Draino or a plunger and other times a drain may need to be snaked. You can purchase a small snake that may do the job but if you’re not familiar with plumbing, it would be best to call a plumber for a clogged toilet or drain.
Some times you may have a serious clog in the mainline going from your home out to the sewer which would require a large and more expensive snake.
Garbage disposal repair is a call often received by plumbing companies due to the fact that people toss things such as fat from meats and their bones down their disposal. The fat is likely too tough for your garbage disposal to break down. The bones, of course, can ruin the blades of your disposal.
Water heater repairs and installation. Calls will come in daily for water heaters. Ever have your water heater go out in the middle of a shoer? or how about going a day or 2 without hot water? not fun.
